I realize I sound like I’m his mother but I remember when I first met him the day after he was born – it seems like yesterday! And I’ve had the wonderful pleasure of photographing him each year since. I watched him crawl and stumble around while walking. Then followed the gibberish that he would speak that I didn’t understand and then he started having longer conversations. He’s growing and talking and he says some of the funniest things!
He’s into bows and arrows right now because he saw the movie ‘Brave’ so we included this “weapons” in this shoot. I’ve learned that if he starts getting tired of smiling, I can easily ask him to make a silly face. We walked around the Heights area and then ended up at a park that is also in the Heights so that he could run around and play.
It’s such a treat to continue seeing my clients and photographing them as their families grow. We started out with Mayra and Johnnie and their wedding sessions. Then we met their little one as a little newborn and now she’s such a big girl! She’s walking around on her own and has some pretty funny facial expressions.
Her oufit choices were so cute! When I meet with clients before a session during the consultation, we discuss clothing ideas. And sometimes people get confused when I tell them that they don’t all have to match perfectly. I realize that it flies in the face of portraits of days past where everyone wears jeans and the same colored shirt. I assure them that it’s ok to wear different colors as long as everything coordinates. In this case, little Whiteley was colorful, had lots of patterns, and was very cute and fashionable. A great outfit! If you’re looking for a few more ideas for family outfits, check out my Karelle Photography Pinterest page. In particular, look at the board titled “Family Clothing.
Last week I was photographing another family and actually ran into the Whiteleys, which is always a treat. And then I was even more excited when I received some news from them…….which I don’t yet want to share here!!
I love supporting Somo Generations (formerly Somo Beads) and photographing their new products. They are beautiful necklaces made and sold for the purpose of providing a quality education to children in environments of cyclical poverty. Also check out the Somo Generations Facebook page. Karelle Photography is looking forward to the next photoshoot we are planning for next year!
Below you’ll see a few of the final images and behind-the-scenes shot. This was the make-shift set-up I created since I was shooting in my old office. The space was limited but we made it work!
I love wearing this jewelry because it really stands out. It also gives me an opportunity to talk a little bit about what Somo Generations is all about.
If you haven’t been photographed by Karelle, what are you waiting for!
The maternity session is always an exciting time because there is so much anticipation for what’s about to come and how their lives are about to change. Sometimes we even feel the baby kick. And then a few weeks later…..he’s born!
Normally I schedule the newborn session just days after they are born, but this little guy had to wait a little longer while they took care of some things in hospital. He was a champ during his session and he slop most of the time.
A few tips:
-I have blankets and hats that you can use during the session. But you can also use your own especially if it was a special gift.
-I encourage parents to not get stressed out if your baby isn’t sleeping during the session. We always adapt and do the best we can with what he or she will allow.
-Be prepared to give him another feeding during the session. This is all part of the session and it’s a good time for baby to take a break.
Marlo and Darel have an interesting story that leads them up to this point of expecting their first child! Friends and family are beyond excited that he’s on his way and they can’t wait to meet him. As their friend and also their wedding photographer I was so excited to get to photograph them in their maternity session. We met up in the Spring area and shot everything outside. Thankfully it was a beautiful day and the lighting was just perfect for their session.
We’ll see Marlo and Darel again when we meet their sweet little boy!
