A Day in the Life: Darla – Houston Photojournalism Photographer

As part of my photojournalism self-assignment project I asked Darla if I could follow her during parts of her day because she does really interesting things! It’s hard to even call it a job because it’s just too much fun.
I sat in on the aerial silks class that she was teaching at the dance studio and it was amazing to watch them climb up those silks and do all those turns and twists (I can’t even call them by their real names because I have no idea what they were doing!) They were up and down and up and down……it looks exhausting.
The second day I met up with Darla to photograph the dance group that she was a part of as they prepared for a corporate event that evening. I watched rehearsal and then the getting ready part and it was fun to watch them work as a group to get things right for the performance that evening.

A Day in the Life: Stephanie – Houston Photojournalism Photographer

Each artist has a skill that they know they want to continue to work on and this year I decided to attend an intense 5-day workshop called the Foundation Workshop to work on my photojournalistic skills. After a tough week I was determined to continue working on these skills and I asked some people I know if I could follow them for two days in order to challenge myself. Stephanie said “yes” immediately and then may have started second guessing her answer once she found that I would have my camera in her face for two full days. ๐Ÿ˜‰ One of the things I learned from the workshop is that it’s a huge challenge for me as the photographer to constantly be watching someone throughout an entire day and thinking of composition and lighting and such. It’s mentally tiring! But I was more excited to hang out with Steph and really see what she does during her day.
Stephanie is a trainer and she leads my bootcamp group (a shameless plug: if you want to join us for a tough workout on Saturday mornings, Stephanie is the one to talk to!) and I met up with her at the coffee shop near the gym. She spent some time planning out a few workouts for her clients and giggling nervously each time she heard the camera click. Soon enough we walked into the gym to meet her first client. I was fascinated by the range of clients that she works with both inside and outside a gym. We even went to a client’s house and I watched them do a workout on the small jumping trampolines that is specialized for the client’s joints issues.
In addition to having a great opportunity to photograph an interesting story, I got to spend time with a friend while she drove around and worked with several clients. And I got to see how she connects so personally with them beyond just knowing what kind of exercises they need to do. It was a really great day.

Cypress Senior Photography | Emily

I love when best friends book me to shoot their senior photography sessions! We shot Ashlyn’s senior session first and then Emily’s, both with different styles and locations. It’s always exciting to be able to try a new location that I’ve been eyeing for years and thankfully I had that chance with Emily, yay! We had to park and cross major streets and then keep walking to get to our locations. And along the way we actually ended up finding some bones – totally weird!

Before each senior session we meet to talk more about their personality and how they want to show their individuality in each session. That’s possibly my favorite thing about these kinds of sessions!

Open House game results!

THANK YOU to everyone that came out to the Karelle Photography open house last week!! And thank you so much for the housewarming gifts – you shouldn’t have! ๐Ÿ™‚

Ok, so there were 3 fun games that you could play and I have three winners to announce.

The first game was guessing how M&Ms there were in a jar. There were 453 and the winner is Emma Montoya! (Yes, that’s my mom)

The second game was guessing how many weddings I’ve shot which was represented by M&Ms in a smaller jar. I’ve shot 183 and the winner is Laura Winters!

The final game was a guessing game with photos and you had to guess what the picture was. A few of them were very challenging and it was fun reading some of those responses ๐Ÿ˜‰

And the winner is…….Carris Young!

Congratulations everyone! And your huge, big prize is…….a $10 gift card to wherever you want. Big time winnings here at Karelle Photography ๐Ÿ˜‰

If you want to see the answers to the “What is it?” game, you can see them below.

Thanks again to everyone, friends, family, and clients, for being a part of getting Karelle Photography this far and celebrating my fifth anniversary. It truly, truly could not have been done without all your support and encouragement.

Houston Baby Session | Baby Carroll, 15 months

The more she grows, the smilier the gets! Now she’s running around and hard to catch!! We ended up at the park so that she could play and run and do whatever she wanted. I couldn’t believe how well she did on the playground, climbing up and then sliding down the slide, wow! She’s such a big girl now.

Baby Carroll is part of the Watch Me Grow and after her two year session we’ll be designing an album. It’s going to be a beautiful and precious album in the end!
Here she is at 3 months old, 6 months old, and 9 months old and 12 months old.
